Business Management (MBA)
The MBA in Business Management is a compact and goal-oriented Master's degree programme for working professionals designed to equip students for the challenges of modern management. The aim is to train students as general managers capable of understanding complex situations and making responsible decisions to achieve overall objectives even when faced with high change and cost pressure. This professional development programme provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical solutions for specific management tasks. It enables them to process and solve problems successfully in business practice using tried-and-tested academic instruments.

Basic module: Management Fundamentals
The General Management programme takes 18 months and begins with 'Management Fundamentals'. This optional basic module (duration 2 x 2 days) is primarily intended for the non-financial students among the MBA participants and creates a common basis in economics for everyone. The compulsory MBA curriculum is then completed afterwards.
The module in 'Leading' focuses on the basic tasks of responsible management. Companies are examined from a strategic, management-oriented perspective as well as from the perspective of microeconomics and game theory.
The 'Acting' module looks at optimising value creation through company management. The focus is on the three key functional areas of marketing, operations and innovation.
The 'Analysing' module examines the figures that are relevant for the management of a company. Students learn how to analyse and evaluate value creation, deriving necessary courses of action in order to optimally manage the company.
In the first semester the MBA class go on a 3-day team-building excursion (included in the fee) to a European partner university of FAU, e.g. the Sorbonne in Paris or Charles University in Prague. Additional business field trips worldwide, e.g. to China or India, are also possible for an additional fee if there is sufficient demand.
Management skills training
The compulsory curriculum is complemented by optional training in management skills on selected topics, e.g. communication, presentation, negotiation, problem solving, decision making, self-coaching or stress management.
At the end of the degree programme students write their Master's thesis. Depending on the medium-term personal goals of the students, three different focuses are possible:
- Job development: practical research project
- Business development: business plan
- Doctorate: theoretical thesis
The degree programme is continually adjusted by the MBA staff to the latest research findings and current economic and political conditions.
As this degree programme is studied alongside work, students should be aware of the time and workload involved and the additional pressure on top of a full-time job. It is recommended that students inform their employer about their plans to study and make sure they will receive the necessary support.
Study times: Friday 3 pm to 8 pm, Saturday 8 am to 2 pm on a total of 36 weekends. Additional individual time will be required to prepare for lectures and work through the material afterwards.
The degree programme fees for the duration of the full programme are currently (status: December 2015) € 25,000. Added to this are additional costs for the statutory student services fee (currently € 42 per semester) and the compulsory semester ticket (currently € 70 per semester).
When do the degree programme fees have to be paid?
The degree programme fees are charged for each semester and must be paid at the beginning of each semester.
Will I have to pay any additional costs apart from the degree programme fees?
No, all costs for studying are covered by the degree programme fees, e.g. materials, books, supervision of the Master's thesis, 3-day team-building excursion to a European partner university of FAU. Only the optional excursions (business field trips, e.g. to China or India) must be paid for separately.
