Greek (teaching degree)

The main focus of the degree programme is on studying the language, literature and culture of Ancient Greece. In light of this, you will gain good knowledge of Ancient Greek. The aim is primarily to gain the skills to read original texts rather than actively use the language. By studying these texts, you will develop the ability to take a critical and reflective approach to this initially foreign culture, as well as your own.
This degree programme will prepare you to become a Greek teacher at a Gymnasium.
In general you should have:
- a passion for the Ancient Greek language, literature and culture
- an interest in academic and methodological work
- a general interest in history and European cultural traditions
Good proficiency in English is required.
Our students receive intensive support and advice. Lecturers are also happy to expand on topics that students are especially interested in.
At the beginning of the degree programme you will need a certain amount of perseverance when learning grammar and vocabulary until you become fluent enough to read original texts more easily.
