Italian (teaching degree)

What are the differences compared to Italian as a school subject?
  • Great importance is placed on academic study of language, literature and culture which make up around 50 percent of the degree programme.
  • Practical language skills (grammar, vocabulary, phonetics, translation, etc.) are taught in separate courses.
Can I choose a specialisation?

You may choose a specialisation for the written assignment at the end of the degree programme from the following specialist areas: linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and subject didactics.

What are the differences compared to the Bachelor's degree programme?

There is less focus on academic content and more emphasis on practical language courses, teaching methods and education science.

Can I study the subject without previous knowledge?

You must have basic knowledge of Italian at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). If you do not have sufficient knowledge you can take FAU's intensive course in August before starting the degree programme in order to reach this level.

Differences between different type of schools

You can only study the teaching degree programme in Italian for Gymnasium.

Particular features

You have the opportunity to study and do placements abroad.

How do I learn how to teach the subject at school?

You will gain initial teaching experience and learn about the various theoretical and practical dimensions of foreign language teaching through seminars on teaching methods and through placements.
