Life Science Engineering (BSc)

What is the degree programme about?

Life Science Engineering links engineering and life sciences. It combines scientific foundations with technical applications. These applications serve the purpose of health protection (pharmaceutical and medical biotechnology) or environmental protection (waste water treatment, energy efficiency). Interdisciplinary life science engineering is a rapidly expanding field thanks to current and future developments in society.

What can I do with this degree?

In Life Science Engineering, you can develop production processes and products which promote people's health. This includes functional food, medical devices, new medicines and production processes and aspects of environmental protection (designing new analysis methods).

  • Development, production planning (of biotechnological products)
  • Optimising processes for efficient use of energy and raw materials

Potential challenges
  • Life Science Engineering is an engineering degree programme, it is not a purely scientific or medical degree programme.
  • Examination periods are at the beginning and end of the semester breaks, meaning that you will need to use the breaks to study for examinations.
  • You must have well-structured independent working methods and carry out careful preparation and follow-up work in order to complete the degree programme within the set period.
  • In the first semester, you will already have to complete the preliminary examination (GOP) within a set period to prove that your skills and knowledge are suitable for the degree programme.
