Medical Engineering (BSc)

What is the degree programme about?

Do you want to know how medical devices work? Do you want to contribute to medical progress by developing and improving medical devices? Are you interested in technology and science? Then Medical Engineering is the right degree programme for you.

In the six-semester Bachelor's degree programme you acquire fundamental engineering skills combined with contents from medicine and technology. After the first two foundation semesters you can choose between the specialisation subjects imaging techniques and device engineering and prosthetics in the third subject semester.

With your Bachelor's degree in Medical Engineering you can go on to a four-semester Master's degree programme in which you concentrate on your specialisation subject, or you can start a career.

  • Our students can participate in exchange programmes with leading international universities in medical engineering such as the Johns Hopkins University (USA) and Peking University (China).

Potential challenges
  • To be admitted to the degree programme you have to pass a qualification assessment process. More information is available on the Medical Engineering website.
  • Although 'medicine' is in the degree programme name, it is an engineering course, substantial parts of which involve mathematics, electrical engineering and computer science. Only five percent of the whole course is devoted to medical subjects.
  • You have to pass a qualification assessment process prior to starting the degree programme. Your final Abitur grade including your grades in mathematics and physics/chemistry are considered. Therefore, you should have good grades in these subjects.
