Public Law (BA)

Life in a state, society, economy and in the private sphere is defined by laws and regulations. In Public Law you learn how these rules are made, who implements them and how they are used in court proceedings.
The degree programme qualifies students for work in
- administration (at the federal, state, local and EU level, and in international organisations)
- national, international and supranational associations and companies
- political parties, political groups and parliaments, as well as for politicians
- non-formal political education
- policy consulting
- interest in all manifestations of politics
- interest in the significance of law
- readiness to read large volumes of texts thoroughly
- ability to express yourself well
- FAU is one of the few universities in Germany where you can study political science with public law as the second subject. This means you can specialise in the area of law which is most relevant for political science.
- After the Bachelor's degree programme, you can continue with the consecutive Master's degree programme and choose public law as a specialisation.
- The number of Bachelor students choosing public law as their second subject is rather small. You can attend subject-specific tutorials and exercises.
- It is possible to change from public law as a second subject to Law (State Examination), your achievements are accredited.
- Public law as a second subject is not a full law degree programme and does not qualify you to practice law (as a lawyer, judge, etc.). To do so, you have to study law, which also covers criminal and civil law.
- The law examinations in public law are subject to the same requirements as the examinations in the regular law degree programme. It is not an easier version of a law degree programme.
- Public Law can only be studied in combination with political science as the main subject.
Can be combined*
*These courses are scheduled in such a way that the subjects can usually be combined without overlapping.
