Spanish (teaching degree)

What are the differences compared to Spanish as a school subject?
  • About 50% of the degree programme is devoted to linguistic, literary and cultural studies.
  • Language-specific skills are taught in separate courses (grammar, vocabulary, phonetics, translation).
Can I choose a specialisation?

You may choose a specialisation for the written assignment at the end of the degree programme from the following specialist areas: linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and subject didactics.

What are the differences compared to the Bachelor's degree programme?

There is less focus on theoretical content and more emphasis on practical language courses, teaching methods and education science.

Can I study the subject without previous knowledge?

You must have basic knowledge of Spanish (level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)). If you do not meet this requirement, you can attend an intensive course offered by FAU in August to bring you to up this level.

Differences between different types of schools

You can only study Spanish (Lehramt) for secondary education schools/Gymnasium.

Programme features

You can study or do placements abroad.

How do I learn how to teach the subject at school?

You will gain initial teaching experience and learn about the various theoretical and practical dimensions of foreign language teaching through seminars on teaching methods and through placements.
